Before

A job board that could not grow.

Get Grants helps UK charities apply for grants. Around eighteen months ago its owner and founder, John Ellery, started Get Jobs: a free job board for charities and not for profits, run by people who know the sector.

It was built on WordPress, and it was slow, manual and costly to run. Every job was approved by hand, and the site could not get past about 200 live roles without slowing to a crawl. For a job board, more jobs should be good news. On WordPress it was a problem.

Five star review on Google

Mike did a brilliant job creating the new Get Jobs website. Easy to work with, impressive design skills and essential AI included. Highly recommended

What we built

Built to carry the whole sector.

A fast public board for jobseekers, and the machinery behind it that brings roles in, checks them and gets them found.

  1. 01

    Fast search at any size

Jobseekers search by keyword and filter by salary, paid or voluntary, function, sector and region, and it stays quick with almost 900 roles live.

BeforeThe site slowed to a crawl before it reached 200 jobs.

  2. 02

    AI job checks

Every job sent in is checked by AI to make sure it is fit for service and suitable for the site.

    BeforeEvery job approved by hand.

  3. 03

    Post in two minutes

Charities post a role in four short steps with no account needed, and it comes down by itself after the closing date.

  4. 04

    API and RSS feeds

Roles also arrive automatically through an API and RSS job feeds, so larger employers never retype a vacancy.

  5. 05Payments by Stripe

    Featured roles

Employers pay £50 by card to feature a role: pinned to the top of the listings, the RoundUp newsletter and LinkedIn.

  6. 06

    Employer accounts

Over 300 employers have signed up to post, manage and repost their roles.

  7. 07

    Found on Google

New roles are submitted to Google automatically, with a job sitemap and the technical groundwork for Google's job search.

  8. 08

    The Jobs RoundUp

A fortnightly newsletter that puts new roles in front of jobseekers who have asked for them.

The public site is live at getjobs.org.uk.

What changed

A board that grows with the sector.

  1. 01

    Almost 900 live roles

The old site could not get to 200 jobs without slowing. The new board carries almost 900 and stays quick.

  2. 02

    Over 300 employers signed up

Charities and not for profits post directly, through the API or by RSS feed, and every role is checked by AI before it goes live.

  3. 03

    Live in five weeks

From the WordPress site to the new board in five weeks, with the jobs, the employers and the Google work all in place.

We build job boards, directories, member portals and the systems behind them for charities and organisations doing good, written in code and owned by you.

Questions about the Get Jobs build.

A new job board to replace the WordPress site: fast search and filters, posting in four steps with no account, AI checks on every job, API and RSS job feeds, £50 featured roles paid through Stripe, employer accounts, automatic submission to Google and the fortnightly RoundUp newsletter.

The WordPress site was slow, manual and costly to run. Every job was approved by hand and the site slowed to a crawl before it reached 200 live roles. The new board carries almost 900 and stays quick.

Five weeks, from the WordPress site to the new board going live.

Three ways: charities post them by hand in a few minutes, employers send them through the API, or they arrive from RSS job feeds. Every job is checked by AI to make sure it is fit for service and suitable for the site.
